Psalm 79-80 Devotional

Introduction

In these two chapters of Psalms we see evidence of man (humanity, psalmist) expressing dismay or discouragement about circumstances, spelling it out, freely discussing it, and reaching, grabbing, stretching to connect with the Almighty God, in faith and hope that if the Creator but shines His face upon the land, the people will be blessed.  The psalmist's words demonstrate well the relationship that others may have with the Creator, Father God if righteous by the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ.  More on salvation and way to have this relationship with God, >>here<<.  May you read the chapters, and likewise freely express your discouragement or dismay about circumstances, and punctuate and frame, every thought with a plea that gives God power and honor as these verses, and may we tell the generations of His praises!!

Psalm 79:9 and 13

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.

13 So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.

Psalm 80: 3, 9, 19; repeated like a chorus

Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.  (repeated in verse 3, 9, and 19)

Have you told God your discouraging thoughts?  Does He already know them?
Perhaps you will find this study on prayer helpful:
Does the psalmist model in  his psalms shared above, that communication (prayer, songs) to our Father may be honest and heart-felt?  What will your prayer or song be?

Dear Father in Heaven,
You are above all and in control of all, as you choose.  It is a dreadful and suppressing time (during Covid-19) when we may not fellowship freely with friends and loved ones for our pre-cautions against transmitting this evil virus.

Lord I ask for your healing in our hearts, our communities, our churches, our nation, that more and more would stand under Jesus's blood and be filled with the Holy Spirit, and produce good fruits accordingly.  In your love, mercy and grace, Father, may your face shine upon us and may you speak curse on the COVID-19 virus, and health for every name that calls on You and desires to serve You, and in Your mercy Father, to others as well.

Use us mightily during this time to shine the Christian light.  Make ready in us, our answer for the hope that is in us even during this dark time. Show your glory and power and may we tell the generations of Your goodness and faithfulness!  In Jesus's name I pray, AMEN
