Psalms 45-46 Devotional

Welcome to this edition of Blogging Through the Bible, where  sisters share their thoughts on scripture as they endeavor to read the Bible cover to cover, blogging as they go.  You can catch more of it here:

Here, we delve into chapter 45 of Psalms.  Let me tell you, I read these scripture with fresh eyes.  Before I consult any commentary, I do my own reading, thinking, and praying, so that when I consult a commentary, hopefully my direction is validated or confirmed.

Such was the case with chapter 45.  It is presented as a wedding song, between bride and king.  As I read it, I wondered.... "Could this be symbolic?"

I reasoned, "It seems that it's purpose and placement in the scriptures would make more sense (to me) if symbolic between the church and the Messiah Jesus Christ, as in New Testament that symbolism is utilized."

Indeed commentary agrees.  As I read in that light, I could not personally make good sense of every line or detail but the jest was to give honor to our Lord, exhort His virtues, express reverence and even to some degree instruct:

(examples)
Give Honor
Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.

Exhort His Virtues
And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Express Reverence
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

Instruct

11 So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.

10 Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;

I would not dare at this point to try and understand every tiddle, but is there some insight that you would like to bring up for discussion on chapter 45?

Have you ever had to "leave your own people," for the sake of your faith in Christ?

Do you believe that "worship," is a practice that we can grow in, and set goals in?  If so, how?  What are your favorite ways to worship?  Are you seeking to grow as a worshipper?  How?

I thank you Father, that through Christ, I am part of His church, Your church, and I have the gift and blessings bestowed through Your mercy, grace, and gift...  I am His, and He is mine.  Live, love, move, and grow in me, I pray Father.  Thank you for preparing a place for your beloved, in heaven.  In Jesus's name I pray, amen

Chapter 46
Often it is not a far stretch to combine two chapters into one devotional quite seamlessly.  Not so in these chapters. Their theme and focus is too varied, and so here is chapter 46 addressed separately.

46 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Want or need a rebuttal to a doomsday sayer or scary news or Corona Virus?  Psalms 46 just might fit the bill !!

I remember being in a position of feeling helpless when people around me were lamenting on "what-ifs," all kinds of scary scenarios.  I knew God and I had what many would call GOOD CHRISTIAN RAISINGS so how did I grow into my thirties and not know that the very rebuttal to that talk which I despised and felt helpless in the midst of, was in my BIBLE all along.... There in is a blessing of making regular Bible reading a part of daily life!!
No circumstance should shake my faith or my knowledge that my God has it under control and He and He alone is my refuge!!!
Is this a comfort to you?

Dear Father in Heaven, almighty, faithful God, I am so grateful that I am Yours through Christ.  Help me to always KNOW that you are in control and I need never fear or panic.  I am yours.  That is all I need...amen
