Chapter 35 and 36, My Side Comments 

Chapter 35 and 36 of Job are more of the same as recent chapters, and let me just say here that I so appreciate my sisters who blog through this with me because my journey is enriched!  Stacey often brings information and details that I would not have thought of or had the resources for, plus she validates my inklings that I am insecure about.  Angela is always so organized and logical and her use of contemporary language really helps the ideas to settle in my heart.  I encourage you to visit and see if you do not agree.  Tatiana has just recovered from illness and hasn't been with us for a while and, "Boy do we miss her!"

I am really quite shocked at the book of Job.  Much is it is Job's presumed friends, seeming to whip him or tongue lash him when he is down, and if you read from the beginning of the book, this is UNFAIR. 

Job is a good man.  His misfortune is not because of SIN, and his "friends" are being presumptuous and are missing the mark but are too foolish to know.  YIKES!  How many times have we done this?

15 But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.

*Insult to an already injured friend Job, from Elihu, and then chapter 36 really takes the prize cake for speaking when one should be quiet, keep mouth shut, and show compassion:

36 Elihu also proceeded, and said,

2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf.

3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

Off the Mark Elihu!!

Isaiah 30:15 ...in quietness and confidence shall be your strength

James 3:8 King James Version (KJV) 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Proverbs 15:2 King James Version (KJV) 2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. Have you caught yourself lately, being presumptuous and speaking when you should have been quiet?  (I have...) What do you think can help us stay humble and quiet rather than .... be like Job's friend Elihu did? What are some things we can do, instead of TALK, to try and be use of God?  Remember, Elihu spoke as if he were informing Job of wisdom and truth from God, but he was WRONG. Dear God, I thank you for your mercy and grace when I fail, or mess up like Elihu.  Help me, because of the Holy Spirit in my life, to be kind, compassionate, helpful, and to speak wisdom or words to edify, or to keep my mouth shut.  Thank you for Jesus, and His finished work, and Your Word preserved, so that I may learn and have HOPE eternal.  In Jesus's name I pray, amen.
