When I found out, I talked to her and wrote a letter to her. I wanted her to understand something. (I think God gave this wisdom to me.) This has been probably 10 years ago or more, but I am going to try and say it here again.
I told her:
There is nothing wrong with receiving a compliment with a simple, "Thank you." Just because you receive a compliment with a thank you does not mean that you are conceited or big headed or prideful at all.
Did you realize that receiving a compliment can be worshipful?
Who made you? (GOD)
Who gave you your talents? (GOD)
Then doesn't credit or thanks belong to Him when you do something well or wonderful and get complimented? (YES)
So if you deny acceptance of a compliment, then you are denying GOD the glory that is His.
From now, on, when someone compliments you, just say, "Thank you," and turn around and give thanks and glory to GOD our creator. Use the compliment as an opportunity to worship.♡♡
Revelation 4:11
"You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created." (talents and all.....)
You are God's creation !! You are uniquely you because of how God made you. Accept compliments and give Him all glory and honor, with a grateful humble heart!
Enjoy what He gave you, and worship Him for all your blessings !!

Why is it so hard for us to accept compliments? It's been hard for me, too. Thanks for the encouragement!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting Lori !!
DeleteExactly right!! Receive the compliment and turn to thank God for what He's given us. Great wisdom!
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to read and comment, Dani <3
DeleteI have learned this virtue from my 14 year old daughter. When she was accepted to the number one state university here, elated much of her achievements, our congratulatory remarks to her was like, 'Pinky, this is awesome! You are the best. This is the fruit of your labor, all effort and hard work..(and so on..)'
ReplyDeleteMy daughter gracefully corrected our comment and said, 'Mom and Dad,Praise the Lord Jesus! Of course, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength'.
Quickly we agreed to her and she led a thanksgiving prayer right there. I thank God for teaching my daughter to surrender all of who she is to the One who gives. And that she completely understand the authority of Jesus in her life.
Faith in the eyes of a child is the Lord's delight.❤
Oh, my !! Give your daughter a hug from us. I will share this story of a beautiful example of Christ, His Holy Spirit at work in a young lady...... with my daughter. Thank you for sharing. I am grateful for you all.
